Wineskins?

Aug 12, 2021 | Encouragement

Today, I was speaking to an acquaintance about a phone. I was able to be of some help because I had previously purchased the same kind. Unfortunately, I had to return the phone and get an upgrade because, as much as I liked it, it wouldn’t hold a charge. The battery drained so fast that I had to buy a battery charging case. It wasn’t cheap. It still did not help much.

I researched the phone and found out that it was actually one of their older models with upgrades. The problem was the battery was the same one used in the older model. It couldn’t keep up with the new technology put on the inside of it. The company wanted to come up with a phone that would cater to the people that liked the old style but with all the upgrades added in for more technical users. It doesn’t work. The battery continued to be drained very quickly.

For some reason, this made me think of wineskins.

Mark 2:22 22And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”

A lot of us don’t like change. We want the “new” stuff while still hanging on to the “old” stuff. Maybe mix it? It doesn’t work. Old wineskins would mold into a shape and grow brittle over time. When new wine was put in, the skin would burst. The old wineskin just couldn’t handle it. It’s the same with us. We have to let go of the old in order to embrace the new.  If this post is for you, you’ll know where the “friction” lies. It’s somewhere between “It must look like this!” , “I can’t let go of this!” or “It’ll always be like this.” Or, something similiar. You know the areas in your life in which you are about to “burst” because God wants to bring the new thing/new revelation but the old is still in the way. It’s time to just let go and  “flow with Him”.

I was not going this way AT ALL with this post. But I guess God knows who needs it! Release the old and receive the new!
