As I was researching for Part I of this post, I came across another scripture and a point to be made about this recalibrating thing. Here it is in Luke 10:38-42:
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
I highlighted a few points in the scripture for emphasis. It was MARTHA that OPENED HER HOME TO JESUS but, It was her sister Mary that sat at Jesus feet! It was not that Martha was a bad person, she knew Him. Afterall, she invited Him. She just needed to be “recalibrated” like we do sometimes. In Part 1, I mentioned that this word had dropped in my spirit and I had to look it up. I needed further clarity. I praise God for leading me RIGHT HERE to open my understanding even further.
Martha had too much going on! She was so busy, Jesus had to say her name twice! (smile) In love, Jesus “recalibrated” her and told her she was upset and worried about many things but Mary chose what was better: to sit at His feet and HEAR HIM. Martha’s intention was good but she was running herself to the point that she got upset with her sister whom was actually doing the RIGHT thing! I would even push a little to suggest that, by Martha’s outburst, she might’ve been letting her “busy” almost tip her over into the “self-righteous” even “judging”? Hmmm… She was looking through her own lens and basically telling Jesus “MARY AIN’T DOING NOTHING!” I believe Martha wanted to be pleasing to Jesus but, she was using works to do it. All He really wanted was for her to sit at His feet. He wanted her time and attention. She needed to be recalibrated to focus on the GOOD THING which would never be taken away. Mary’s choice to sit at Jesus feet FIRST led to her having more peace and order. I bet after Jesus finished speaking, Mary graciously got up and helped do all that needed to be done, probably humming with joy in the process while Martha was stressed out and raving like a magpie. I pray we choose to seek Him first, choose the best thing. There is a blessing in the reset. There is a blessing in the “stopping and listening”. It is a blessing to be recalibrated.
