What I Imagine Moses Was Thinking…..

May 30, 2021 | Encouragement, Poetry

I always knew I was different.
No matter what, I never seemed to fit in.
I was living a life of privilege
While my adopted family made slaves out of my kin.

I learned the Egyptian’s ways,
But my spirit did not dwell in peace.
The wealth did not appease my unease,
For I desired to see my people released.

In a heated moment, the calling arose, untrained and unchained
Without restraint, I helped my Hebrew brother.
As a result,
An Egyptian dead body remained.

When I realized that my Hebrew brothers did not accept my deed
And an Egyptian was now dead,
I was so torn, nowhere did I belong
So, I fled

In the new life I made, I still felt as if I did not belong.
However, I somehow found a form of peace
But, from my calling, I was not released.

One day, by way of a burning bush,
Complete understanding, I received
Although, years before, I had acted in ignorance of my higher calling
The time had come for it to be achieved.

I had to forget the mistakes of earlier years
And overcome insecurity and fear.
Time and Destiny had collided.
My people’s liberty was near

Looking back on my youth, every piece was falling into place.
God had been there the entire time and let nothing go to waste.
As I stepped into the fullness of who I was created to be,
My moving out of timing, murdering a living soul
Even that was used to show me of God’s greater goal.

Even fitting in was not meant to be
For I was set apart
To be used to set the people free.

Although my story is completed, yours is still being told.
If I had any advice to give, I’d tell you to be encouraged. Be bold!
Believe, leave the past behind and let God guide your steps.
Allow His Glory to be revealed in every breath you have left!

(Exodus 1-3)

Can you identify with any of Moses story? What has He put on your heart to do?  Did it feel “out of timing”? Not produce what you thought it would? Is it time to try again? Be encouraged! The good work God has begun in you, He will complete it! (Phil. 1:6)
